Montgomery County

Montgomery County was created from a part of Philadelphia County by an act of the Pennsylvania Assembly on September 10,1784. Montgomery County consists of 24 boroughs and 38 townships. The Borough of Norristown is the county seat with the Courthouse located at Airy and Swede Streets.

Rich in historic heritage and blessed with an abundance of natural beauty, Montgomery County has developed into a vital county in the Commonwealth. Within 483 square miles are attractive neighborhoods, modern apartment buildings, contemporary shopping centers, thriving office and industrial complexes, rolling farmland, and beautiful rustic rural areas. Chester County

Chester County is 762 square miles or approximately 487,500 acres in size. The highest elevation is 1071 ft. in the Welsh Mountains in Honey Brook Township. The lowest elevation is around 70 feet along the Schuylkill River at the Montgomery County line. The County was created by William Penn in 1682 as one of the three original counties of Pennsylvania. There are 67 counties in Pennsylvania. The County is a Third Class County with a three member Board of County Commissioners. There are 73 municipalities, consisting of 1 city, 15 boroughs, and 57 townships. All of the townships are 2nd Class except Caln Township which is a 1st Class Township. The Class of a township is determined by the State based on established criteria. All or part of 14 school districts cover the County. Chester County is the 7th most populated county in the State based on the 2000 Census.
